Babyfeeding Update

In case anyone is actually interested in this thrilling saga...
Breastfeeding has improved since our visit to the clinic. I've only had to give Andrew bottles a handful of times. My nipples are very painful, however. My right nip in particular feels like it's on fire while he nurses. I think it's just because he's very rough with them these days. I had to stop nursing in the glider because he was pushing his legs against the arms, causing him to jerk on the nipple. Ouch!
For the past week I've been attempting to feed him solids twice a day. Along with the mashed banana, he's now tried homemade applesauce, mashed potatoes, mashed rice, and a bit of shredded chicken. Tomorrow he'll try carrots. So far he hasn't seemed to particularly like anything. I think he's still trying to figure out what to do with the food and how to swallow. Most of the food ends up on his bib. This is normal, right?

I'm glad that breastfeeding has improved but am sorry that you're having pain! My son was very rare in that he ate everything and loved all of his baby foods right away. But I think your experience is the more common one.
I was surprised your clinic told you to skip cereal. . .from all of the doctors I know and reading I've done I've heard that is the most important baby food of all because of the DHA and iron which isn't found in anything else (breastfed babies are at risk of getting anemia otherwise). Plus, it gets babies used to that texture which makes the veggies and fruits easier. I still feed my son cereal at 18 months because he loves it, it's easy, and I know he's getting those very important nutrients!
It's great your still breastfeeding with all the pain. It sounds like you have a bacterial infection, I had one and it burned so bad whenever my baby ate. It was like my breasts were on fire! Just wanted to let you know you can get an antibiotic that will kill it very quickly and make it so much easier! Tell the lactation nurse your symptoms and she can do a simple test to find out.
Hope this helps!
