Wowza!

Andrew has gained almost a pound in just eight days, for a grand total of 10 pounds, 12 ounces at five weeks of age. Unbelievable!

I was feeling better about the breastfeeding situation, but I was knocked back down by today's appointment at the clinic. The nurse there told me that the reason Andrew isn't napping properly is that he's hungry. If he was really satiated, she said, he'd have no problem going for a two-hour nap in his crib after each feeding.

I have no idea how to apply this knowledge. I'm not sure how I could possibly feed him more. And, well, his weight gain is spectacular. How could he gain like that if he's going hungry all day?

Oh, I think that advice is BS! The nurses tried to tell me that my daughter was still hungry, so I supplemented with formula and it did nothing. She was still so agitated. She is 2.5 years old and still sleeps like crap, to be honest. She has always slept best when I hold her, or I am near. Go with your gut, do what works for you two. Congrats BTW!

Has this nurse been educated on breastfeeding? I wouldn't believe that he's hungry if he is gaining weight and having wet and dirty diapers.

Not all babies are the same. Some will sleep for 2 hours in their crib at 5 weeks and some won't. Don't let a nurse cause you to second guess what you are doing for your child.

Way to go!!!! Ummmm I wonder where that nurse got her info from, because that's nutso to assume that a barely month old baby will be sleeping on his own for 2 hours. Each baby is different in the sleep dept, and most do not sleep that long at this age. Don't let her bad advice get to you. I believe if he is gaining weight and healthy, he is NOT hungry. Go with your gut and when it comes to sleep, do what feels right for you at this point. If you haven't heard of it already, a book I really like is called the No Cry Sleep Solution. Keep up the good work!
